Itchy

So a friend retweeted what another batchmate from SRCC tweeted about. He mentioned, among other things, that the use of letter M in economics is for 'income'. From whatever little I could recall (and also considering that I do still use a lot of such abbreviations), I thought it was Y for income. And I responded with my thought. She replied saying that the Keynesian school used M, as in the savings-income model. I thought she was talking about the IS-LM model and agreed that it's M, not Y. And then I remembered our ol' man, Hicks. And a whole lot of other monetarists who use M for income. Keynes, on the other hand, used M for imports. Y=C+G+..... (X-M). And I haven't been able to breathe since then.

HAD to get it out of my system. Didn't tweet back fearing I might come across as too weird. I am sure this post does not prove otherwise either. Even so. :P

And that friend is probably reading this post too. :D

Bheja Fry

A day that started on a hyper note – sleeping at 0130, waking up at 0500 and then setting and resetting alarms every 10 minutes till 0700 to catch just a little more sleep.
So, with just a little sleep I could hear some buzzing in my head just before the exam. Not a good sign, I hardly ever do that to myself the night before an exam, but I had no option.
At 0900 I was handed such a royal paper that I wanted to walk out of the room within 15 minutes ‘coz I was sure that I would have to repeat the paper next year. This had never happened before! I consoled myself by thinking about all my friends who were in the same situation. Made myself sit there and write. There was a fan in the room that was making a lot of noise and I had told Ritika (the girl sitting behind me) before the exam that when we won’t have anything to write, we’ll just listen to it creaking. I did that for 25 minutes. Ugh! Ugh ugh ugh!

Falling and tripping, I think I am growing up to be a clumsy woman (my biggest confession on this blog). So I tripped on an escalator today, thankfully I was still down, and broke my favourite chappal. Had to live with that damned thing for so many hours (and a little bruise too. :( ).

But I am also learning to take care of myself. I’d like to believe that my fight against my moods is going good. So I decided to go for a movie considering that I have a decent gap before the next exam. Today being a Saturday and Ma being home, I could not possibly have gone alone so I put on my favourite red skirt (taking care of a mood, remember?) and took her along. Bheja Fry!

Bheja Fry has one of the best comic duos that India has today. They started with Channel V, if I am not wrong and have featured together several times – Vinay Pathak and Ranvir Shorey. They, along with Rajat Kapoor, Milind Soman (looked hot!) and Sarika made my day. I don’t remember seeing a better movie than this in ages. I don’t know about technicalities but I know that I have never laughed in a theatre the way I did today. It was outrageous! If you think Khosla ka Ghosla was good, I’d say this is three times better. Vinay Pathak is definitely the man of the movie! It’s about him, it’s his. AWESOME! Classic stuff! And the best thing about it is that you don’t have to leave your brains home unlike for the stupid movies that have started coming and becoming ‘superhits’ too. Plain, clean comedy – that’s what it is.
It’s a must-watch for anyone who wants to have a good laugh.

And now I am going back to have some ‘economic development in my sleep’.
Tada!

Thank You Very Much!!

It is nearly 3 o' clock on the morning of 1st of April, 2007 and till now I have lived through 365x2 + (365 - 42) days of Economics and God knows I am done with it! As much as I like the feel of being an Economics graduate, as much as I appreciate the thought behind every economic logic, and as much as I think that it would be super-cool if I knew all that I should be knowing about MY subject....I don’t want to!
Yes, I find it fancy. Extremely fancy! But from a distance from now on. I don’t want to be studying pages after pages after pages for dumb university exams. NO!

Phew! Needed this between some views on neo-liberalism.

Added later:
I have realised that it's wrong math. It's not 365-42 days. But I'm sure you know that I don't care. All I know is that it's 42 more days to go. Thank you!

Puppets and Paupers

Economics is back on the table! Not that it could or would have gone anywhere far yet...but yes, I am officially back to the grind. I wish somebody gave me an official datesheet too so that I could start planning stuff. It has been delayed enough!

So, with the subject coming back, day-dreaming is back too. And it’s quite annoying. I neither like it (‘coz then I get behind my ‘schedule’) nor does it lead to anything concrete...just (not so plain) dreams.
Hmm....dreamed a few nice dreams today.

Anyway!
I still don’t like sitting at home. Each day is a boring drag. My idle mind plays dirty games with my heart. And there is no one to talk to! What a pain!
Not forgetting (or not allowed to forget) that I instantly start putting on weight if I sit home.

So today was a day dedicated to rain, sleep and Menwhopause. Yeah, I got the bug from you know who (Ahem! I meant where). :P
Of course, there was a dash of trans-national corporations and poverty, etc. too. But just a dash of it.

Was just rambling for no reason...
Good night!

Please don't try too hard to link the title to my post. It's only because I've fallen in love with this song. 5 minutes and 10 seconds of pure bliss!

RJ’s and APJ’s

RJ is a man every person who knows him has an opinion about. Not just an opinion, it’s a case of extreme like or dislike. I’m no different. I’ve liked him extremely, and hated him the same. He taught me in the first two years of college; made me miserable by not letting me pass a single test in the 2 years; and still managed to make me like him at the end of it all.
He has been the latest hot topic on the batch community on Orkut too. Today, he took a special class for us. And I loved every moment of it. I know that through the year there were only a handful of lectures that I paid attention in for this subject. That teacher is just so boring! And I was all ears today. He brought back the killer Micro classes’ feel. For a split second he even made me think that I love Economics and should consider doing an MA. Thank God it was just a split second. Maybe I won’t mind studying Eco if he teaches me every subject but before the impossibility of such a situation may come up, he would just laugh his sarcastic laugh and shoo me away. His favourite sarcasms about low levels of intelligence, not being able to solve 2nd standard Math (partial differentiation) and so forth, (according to him) are all applicable to me. Nonetheless, I totally admire that man. He’s the best teacher I’ve had in the 3 years of college and his sense of humour, however lame at times, does crack me up.

And his was the closing lecture. He started the journey for us and ended it too. Loved, loved, loved it! :-)

APJ of course, is someone everybody in India knows. After the bugger rain stopped, I went to his estate. I’ll have to say that it was a rather boring outing but flowers being the subject here, I shall not dwell too much on the negative bit of it. The Mughal Gardens are open for public in Feb-March every year so I thought I’ll check them out today. Two things I completely loved –

The musical gardens
Patriotic fervour in the air...fountains dancing to the tunes of ‘I love my India’, etc was great!!! Beautiful sight!

Lilies
Sadly, 99.9% of the lilies had still not flowered but whatever I saw was lovely. Now I know that however much I may love roses, my wedding decorations will have lilies. Asiatic ones, if not the Oriental ones! White and orange ones looked sooo cool.

The other flowers were all double their usual size. Looked gigantic but pretty. Dahlias, tulips, poppies, pansies, marigold, the bougainvilleas in pretty purple, and a strange rose called Joey’s Rose. Very pretty!
Also saw a tiny bio-diversity park. Turkeys, peahens, ducks, parakeets, and some more animals. Cute!

Mr President came out to meet the people and I missed him by 2-3 minutes. But that’s ok. I’ll meet him 2 weeks later in my own college. He’s the chief guest for our Annual Day. :D

But I must say, he has a very royal house. Yeah, I know it comes with responsibility but even then! I mean, how do you explain fountains on the roof-top? Now THAT is fancy. I’d feel like a queen if I got such a house to live in.

It was a short outing. Cell phones, cameras, water bottles, etc...nothing is allowed inside. So I could not even take any pictures. But it was a nice break. Liked it.

So RJ’s class and APJ’s house made it a nice day. :-)
