Flipping Through

Priyam tagged me in a post which took me to the time when I looked forward to blogging because of all the friends that I had made through this medium. I lost some, I kept many. About them, another day. For now, I am taking up the tag. I have done this multiple times in the past, but it is entertaining enough this Saturday night.

Ten Random Facts About Me (in no order):

1. My fingers know my BB password but my lips don't. That was the objective when I set it.
2. I talk to imaginary people. And love doing it.
3. I recently got hooked to an astrology website. Yes, #facepalm
4. Some songs on my ipod have had a permanent spot on the playlist for five years now
5. I have a special feeling for people who walk with their hands in the pockets, in crowded spaces. Not!
6. I recently discovered that I have a stalker and I find it kinda cool.
7. I do not have canines.
8. I don't like spending money on shoes. I don't even like shopping for shoes.
9. I find it hard to make conversations. Quite.
10. Sometimes I wish I got some inheritance credited to my account so I can travel without a care.

And some questions....
1. What is the first thing you do when you wake up?
Check my emails.

2. How do you express your anger?
I often rehearse some yelling with friends. Otherwise it stays in.

3. If you had to live on a lonely island and take only one book with you, which one would that be?
There isn't a favourite book.

4. An embarrassing moment/fact about you?
The recent past has been boring enough.

5. How much do you let your academic success/failure affect your life?
Extremely. It has always been very important.

6. Do you believe in first impressions?
I do. And I am mostly right.

7. What period of your life do you think was best?
Of the few that are over, I would say that school was the best.

8. Do you live in present more or brood about past and fantasize about future more?
I live in the present. Think about the past. And leave the future for tomorrow.

9. Your favourite cartoon and why?
I like Sid from Ice Age. Hard to say why.

10. And finally Harry potter or Twilight?
Neither!

Of Infections, Weaknesses, and Addictions

I have been all over the place today. This business of having less work is extremely unproductive even if for a day. I don’t know where I got a cold from again. I am deeply annoyed. Few things can beat being on good terms with seniors. My manager went on a long leave yesterday and gave me a pack of Starbucks to enjoy. Of course, it was just lying in her drawer, but even so. She could have chosen to take it home. :D Oh yes, I have started having coffee lately. I always feel like going out and meeting people on days when I get off work early. Today when I do have a plan which I was excited about, I only feel like going home and sleeping. I want to sleep for 24 hours, if not less. The loop paid a visit today. Hate that bitch! Hate this cold too! I got a lot of flowers on my birthday. They made me happy. Now they are dead. I want more flowers. I want to roll in flowers. Just like I wanted to lie in those marigold fields in Kerala! Kerala was so blissful. Why can I not get more of it. Why is life not a paid holiday. I want to visit a desert now. Cold or hot, does not matter. Just some expanse which I can lose myself in. I don’t like this ‘control’ nonsense. We should just let everything flow. Actually, both have their advantages. Letting it flow makes me happy, and being in control gives a sense of balance. But letting it flow makes me miserable too. Can I please be selective about it? Keep the happiness, that is. Ha.

Gulbandh

My idea of time has become a little distorted over the past few days. If once I feel that a whole week just hopped past, another time I feel like the first half of a day was really really long ago. Life is nice and busy. The toxins are at a minimum. And I am counting down for my foot's cast to come off now.

The other day I looked at people walking, standing, running at a metro station and they all seemed to have an alien power that I no more seem to have. My knee has only gotten worse because of chikungunya and the pressure it had to take because of this fracture. I almost feel that it will never get better again. Especially because I am not doing anything about it these days.

I have also never felt as unsure of my capabilities as I do today because the level at, and environment in, which I am expected to function is demanding in a way that I didn't imagine it to be. But I am hoping that this experience will also deliver gains with similar exponents.

I was not expecting the weekend to be a weekend. So, to steal a Friday night out and have a relatively relaxed Saturday feels even better than it otherwise would have. Now all that I really need is a nice roadtrip to some place nice and my life would be complete. :D

Coffee*

Some social gatherings can be a little more than awkward.

___

You die of glee (maybe like you die of embarrassment?; only in a much happier sense.)**when somebody uses the word 'diva' for anything associated with your looks. I mean, just imagine a non-fashionable, geeky, I'm-too-lazy-to-give-a-damn-about-my-looks woman being at the receiving end of that! Of course, this description is of the perception people have of me. I would look a lot worse if I did not give a damn. But while we're at it, I'd add that a second someone said that my hair looked like I was there for a shampoo commercial shoot.
So, fuck the single strand of gray. My hair still have it in them!

You must have figured, unless you're talking about my eyes or my smile, it's the hair that take me to cloud number 9.

___

Mind games suck. They just suck! I never knew that it was in your own hands to complicate things in life. If things moved my way, I'd keep it so much simpler. But then I am not an isolated homosapien. Wish I had like-minded people around (in this respect).

___

Mera budday aa raha hai! :D And it's not a religious dry day this time. Ha!

___

What is with people and their pointless attitude? Somebody enlighten me.

___

I learned of a new misconception some close ones have about me. It's amusing, and at the same time it hurts a little to figure that someone who is really close also has an almost blasphemous misconception about you. But that's the price you pay for being so closed.

___

*Because it's the first word that came to Ruhi's mind when I asked her for one.
**I am unsure of the punctuations here. Help if you want to, please.

Welcome back to Pune

I have been off the internet for more than a week, and it is never really a great feeling to be away from an addiction for that long. The previous post here lay incomplete in my drafts for too long, but I decided to complete it and post it as on a previous date only. The post that was to come up before that also remained a draft, and I am kinda happy that it did not get published. It isn't that great an idea to give you a close access to my insecurities. I'm anyway too public with my life here. :-)

Continuing with the momentum of leading a public - small audience, but public nonetheless - life, here's a list of things that I remember from the past 10 days...

A last day at work.

A good review and feedback for my work.

More than a few fuck-ups at home.

Loads of packing.

A little bit of shopping.

A niice dinner with most of my cousins last Sunday night.

A long train journey back to Pune.

A guy in the 3rd year of his college was travelling with us and I mistook him to be school-going. His sister was 12 years younger than him, and for an entire day they reminded me of my childhood and the equation I shared with bhaiya when I was younger.

Our other fellow travellers were a weightlifter-coach duo who talked of Olympics, national games, world championships, doping, anti-doping, doping, and anti-doping the whole time.

I thought Pune was just as hot as Delhi when it decided to get the rains going and making it pretty chilly in the nights.

The day right after I landed in Pune was a horribly sick day in a while. We had no classes, planned to go to a beach nearby, got on to a bus that would have taken us there, but as luck would have it... we never got to the beach. Had to get off the bus for stupid reasons. The city had some stupid religious procession which killed every normal person's routine. So we walked and walked and walked and WALKED for miles together. The little things every second moment going wrong also have the potential to fuck your mood. They did exactly that. So by the time I got back to campus.. I was pissed, and overwhelmed, and TIRED with lotsa money spent and no productivity.

The rain has been gathering pace with each passing day.

I have had no bloody classes in the last four days and I am annoyed like hell.

I have started watching Sex and the City, and am already through with season 1.

Some people have appreciated my new piercings and my new hairdo, so I am kinda happy about that.

I have no juniors on my floor and that is quite a bummer considering that I was pretty sure that there will be at least a few of them around for some entertainment.
But instead, my new neighbours are even worse than the previous ones. The last ones could not keep their smoke to their room... these ones can't keep their voices to their room. Bloody hell.

Swetha clicked a picture of mine which is serious and nice. I have never had anybody click a picture with both those features in one and really make it look as nice as this one. I'm happy. So it's my new display picture on Facebook. :-)

I think this is pretty much it. The other stuff that I am bothering about is a job that I hope to have in a few months from now. And a hunt for cute boys on campus. Why are some things in life so hard?

The Week That Was

Oh, it's been a week already since I last wrote. My MiG's somersaulting in the sky.

What happened since last Thursday?

Delhi got more humid.
I saw blood.
The creep admitted he is a chauvinist. Not in that many words, duh.
I extracted the last drop of perfume from the bottle.
I met Akash, Michelle, Deepak and Rohit.
I also left my sunglasses at Akash's place.
Visited a fancy library in South Ex.
I had a Sub.
Also met nanu, nani and Daksh.
Lived through insane voltage fluctuations.
Went through my school scrapbooks.
Had Swetha over for a night.
Had lots of ice-cream.
Somebody asked me out. :P
Saw LOADS of UPA in the papers.
Watched Delhi Daredevils lose a game. :-/
And there was lotsa laziness. :)

And this.. and that

Photoshop is so not what I thought it was! I still don't know more than 10% of what it has to offer, but it's pretty crazy. It is fun when I realise I still am fairly good at it, but the whole deal is that I barely ever sit down to do it. In all these months, not once have I used it to process a picture. It's always something new that I am taught and expected to create on it. Quite a fascinating thing.
Something else that is really cool is the fact that my room is like a complete home now that I have joined the beds and there is this warmth about it. I am getting too comfortable like this. Wonder what I will do when my roomie comes back next semester.
Recently did something that is probably not a nice thing to do for a sane person, but it was a big boost because it was kinda like an assurance that I really do not take shit from random people and do have the capability of giving them a piece of my mind. Yea, I did need some reassurance on that front. I felt unbelievably happy blasting this guy I cannot tolerate. :D
Another thing that is really annoying is the virus brigage that has taken over this campus. Every frikkin pen drive and system is infected, and now my cursor is jumping to whichever spot it likes whenever it wants to. And my anti-virus is not detecting it. Somebody help!! :-/
A proud but not-so-proud record that I set recently was of stepping out of bed and reaching the hostel lobby in nine minutes flat (bath included!). :D
Not having a roommate has its disadvantages also.
Doggies on campus have started doing what some of them near my house did. Nap around 8-9 pm, and bark away to glory 1:00 am onwards.
The Ganesh Utsav on campus saw a cultural night a couple of days back. I was supposed to sit and watch for 30 minutes, and I ended up spending 3 hours and 30 minutes enjoying it. Next day was full of guilt, but it was LOADS of fun. This campus has never been more entertaining.
A new visiting faculty has come to teach us electronic media for a while. I have never seen a bigger, more entertaining freak in my life! The man is kinda old but his energy is unbeatable. Has been a student and also a director of FTII, and his world is extremely fascinating. Awesome classes!
Social change classes are still a little hazy. I understand that their purpose is to give us a different perspective on things we tend to ignore. But some of the people who come and talk about issues have such an extreme leftward bent that they cannot even give a balanced view. I wonder if it is a good idea to shove opinions down people's throats.
Today I slept while standing. In class. As in, not slept slept, but eyes were shut for long enough to wake with a jerk. New feat achieved.
I think I should go sleep. See you in a while.

I want to be rich

Two uber hot bags at Kudos today. One of them the happiest form of green. It was a degree hotter than what your imagination tells you. The other is what was gifted to me. I wanted both. BOTH!!
Someday I shall buy the functional AND the fashionable things together.

Store the gyaan for some other post, please.

Today I was on a flight that had a female pilot. I got some strange kick out of the situation. Yes, I AM still straight.
And does Air India have leg room or what! Loved it. The old air hostess aunty was a shock as well.
Btw, Terminal 1A at IGI will probably remember me for a while now. I am their Mortein girl. Yes, my buddies in my room need a heavy dose of it and I had decided to carry it from home. Authorities decided to not let me carry it in my hand luggage. So I was made to go out and put it in my other baggage. Yes, that bag had gone for boarding. So I went with a Mr Sharma - on the way explained to ten different uncles and aunties that I live in a jungle and Mortein is important - and finally succeeded. Then a new boarding pass, security check again, and a complete round of conversations with more security fellows who all had some distant relative or the other studying in Pune. One recently got placed with Birla. Incredible, innit? :) But I am just glad I had enough time to go through the entire drama.

Also, I have not had such a sore throat in ages! I sound like a duck and my throat has barbed wires inside. Not nice. :-/

I watched Singh in Kinng and was it fun or what! Go watch it if you can appreciate raw and loudPunjabi way of things. Or simply for the love of Akshay Kumar, man. He is just brilliant. And may I please inform you - PVR Cinemas are making truckloads of money from this movie. 45 minutes of screening ads between the scheduled beginning and actual beginning of the show. Beat it.

I had also watched Jaane Tu.. (yes, finally) last week. Dunno what the hype was about. Really don't.

Ok now I need to go. Another frikkin test to study for. Tada!

P.S. - This post was originally to contain only the first para. Therefore the title. But of course.

Signature Post

I don't think I am joining SIMC, but their letter came today, and they want my parents to compulsorily pay for a dSLR along with a lappy. So tempting. Darn it! :|

Had a nice cup of tea after really long today. My favourite when I buy one - Earl Grey. The guy there did shock me by not giving milk with it, but thankfully that was a mistake. :O

Went out for a nice and filling dinner with family too. It had been very long.

Frikkin Thackeray got arrested and got a bail in two hours for a measly 15K. Fuckers.

I snored today. :P But the moment I did it, I got up. It was so shocking and amusing. God save me.

Strangely, I am not getting to see much of chrysanthemums this season. I wonder why.

I need a new shampoo. Straight, oily hair. Nothing too expensive. Can anyone suggest something other than Garnier, Sunsilk and Head & Shoulders?

Presently, I am reading a novel. :D One of those thriller types.

Did I mention before that I finally got hold of that Fuchsia wallet that was once stolen from my bag? I mean, not that same wallet, but a similar one. Moi is happy. :D

And the bestest news of all. I have finally forgotten the mobile number of the first jerk that I dated. It's a big deal. :P

I'm assuming this is the kind of post everybody thinks is my signature post. At least your comments suggest so. Lemme know if I'm right. Or wrong. :-)

And oh, happy Valentine's. :-)

Time Tales

For some reason, it feels like eternity since I wrote a random post here. Not that there is any dearth of such posts on this blog, and not even as if I have a very happening life right now that I'd write about my day and it would make for a good read, but I still feel that the number of that kind of posts has reduced quite drastically here.
There has been no Abhishek Bachchan, no college friends, no cousins, economics of course, no 'I love bullets' post, no silver, not even any 'vague thoughts extended'! God! What do I write about nowadays?!
A few new things -- photography, Shady, back issues...
And some not so new things, the things that remain -- exams, studies, moods, music...

This blog is a year and one week old today. Perhaps it is coincidence, but just like my own birthday was dry and minus the excitement this year, so has been my blog's. In fact, I did not even access my page that day - that too because of coincidence, I was not in Delhi, but even so.
I do remember the summer of 2006 though...Vague Thoughts' birthday was celebrated quite nicely. :) That blog was also quite an experience!

The calendar year is also coming to a close. And like every year, I don't know how this year went by so quickly. But actually it was a rather long year. I think we are just involuntarily accustomed to feeling that time flies. At least I am. And that is possibly because I have a fairly decent memory - I remember things, days, events rather clearly. So, even though the scenes from Jan this year are fresh in my mind, I know I've spent a lot of taxing times through the year too. And a lot of days have been very very long - they never seemed to end.
The tone of this post is moving towards sad, and that is not quite what I intended it to be. Neither am I sad today. I'm fine. (This is one of the ''I'm fine''s from my Orkut profile. For those who had doubts. :D)
So let us put it a little differently: Even though the days never seemed to end, they did. In spite of bad days, I had peaceful nights (barring some :D).
But yes, I started the year on a worried/lost note, rode through a whole gamut of feelings/experiences/thoughts, and am back to worried/lost. Hehe... Quite a cycle! :)
But at least I am more stable. That's reason enough to be thankful. :-)

I'm going for a little dip in the past today. Not sure how it's gonna be...again, time will tell. :-)

So, see you in a while. Tada!
